Pembroke College

The LED handrail system on the link bridge at Pembroke College, Oxford integrates structural engineering and architectural lighting The footbridge links the historic Pembroke College campus (Chapel Quad) with the Rokos Quad extension over Brewer Street. It was designed by architects Berman Guedes Stretton and structural engineers Price & Myers By embedding the LEDs directly into the underside of the stainless-steel handrail channel, the design projects light downward onto the bridge deck. This approach highlights the transparent glass framing and prevents light pollution from spilling into the surrounding conservation area.
