Crabtree Place

Crabtree Place occupies a prime position in London’s Fitzrovia, parallel to Tottenham Court Road, centred around a rare central London mews. The development comprises three types of exclusive accommodation — apartments, a duplex penthouse and seven triplex homes — accessed via a bespoke stainless steel and European oak entrance gate designed by Footfall Lighting.

Appointed as principal balustrade contractor, Footfall Lighting designed, manufactured and installed balustrades, staircases and architectural metalwork throughout the development. For the external Light Court Mews, this included a pioneering LED lighting system using proprietary modules integrated into a structural glass balustrade, with hand-applied sandblasted glass panels that refract light for a subtle, visually striking effect.

The most challenging element was the balustrading to the polished concrete spiral staircases within the triplex homes: a curved structural glass balustrade to the outer stringer and a mirror-polished stainless steel balustrade to the inner. Drawing on 35 years’ experience in design and development, Footfall Lighting used premium materials to deliver a striking result.

The feature staircase in the apartment entrance lobby further demonstrates this expertise, comprising a mirror-finish stainless steel CHS spine, structural glass balustrade, cantilevered stainless steel handrail and hand-crafted European oak treads and landing.

The project scope later expanded to include bespoke entrance canopies, privacy screens, bicycle stores and gates — all designed and manufactured to the same exacting standard for consistency throughout.
